"Portrait Photography is a fictitious world in which people portray seconds from their life, essentially to impress others. Smiling at the camera for no apparent reason. Basking in warm climes and endless revelry to garner envy among their peers.

The images I make are created from truth. They are inspired by the person I am photographing, and, unless requested by the client, I have an aversion to poses, unless they are natural and candid. No poses, and no smiles, unless they are caught genuinely at the "Decisive Moment".

As a documentary photographer, I often place my collaborators (I find the word “model” demeaning) in settings which, in the future, will rekindle the period and the nuances of a bygone era. I have a passion for monochrome, often using 50 year old lenses, because I believe the photographs will remain relevant and fresh with an air of mystery - indefinitely.

Colour is the seduction while black and white is the foreplay."
